DIY Getting Dog Urine Smell Out Of Carpet
Moving onto the DIY or do-it-yourself getting dog urine smell out of carpet method.
As for cleaning those newly wet areas of carpet, you’ll first need to soak up the excess fluid using towels as described above – whatever you do, DON’T leave the dog urine to dry out as this will just encourage your dog to revisit the same spot and urine time and time again.
You’ll then need a solution of approx. 50% white vinegar and the same quantity of water and work this mixture deep down into the pile of the carpet, applying this solution thoroughly is important to getting a clean and odorless result.
Using a clean towel, press firmly on the area to absorb further moisture from the carpet.
Allow the area to dry and sprinkle some baking soda over the area you have just cleaned – you will then need to mix half a cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with a teaspoon of washing up liquid or other form of detergent.
Whilst wearing protective gloves, pour the mixture over the baking soda and work well into your carpet using either your gloved fingers or a small brush.
Using a clean dry towel, again, towel the area over, allowing the towel to absorb as much as possible of any remaining liquid and allow to dry fully – you can then vacuum up any small particles or residue remaining from the likes of the baking soda … you may even need to use a small nail brush to loosen any dried in baking soda.
